About Christie Pepper

I am a criminal investigator, full time mother of 3, avid reader, baker, freelance writer, and crafter on the side.

So here’s some random rambling about me…  I am a strong believer in the saying. “If you spit in the air, it will only fall in your face.”  I have learned this the hard way.  I am loyal, dedicated, and borderline obsessive.  My social views are liberal, my politics are moderate, and my approach to life comes on a day to day basis.  I’m passionate about the things that interest me. I am a college graduate, who makes less than most high school drop outs.  My favorite flavor of ice cream is mint chocolate chip.  I hate confrontations, but believe me I can hold my own.  I would give anything to be able to pick up the phone and call my mom. I like all kinds of music, but my heart belongs to the 80′s.  I love to read and once I start reading a good book, I will literally fall asleep and wake up with my face stuck to the pages…well now the kindle hits me in the head and wakes me up.  I enjoy learning new things, and rarely decline a challenge.  I hope to someday be a published writer.  I love blackberry merlot.  My biggest fear is losing someone else who I love.  I am a cajun, which I believe is a dying ethnic American group, that can speak their own version of French and cook some mean cuisine.  I have always been overweight.  The hardest thing that I have ever had to do was stand by while my mother passed.  I like silence; therefore, the silent treatment is a “treat” to me.  I am addicted to the HBO series True Blood; although, Charlaine Harris’ books are better.  I don’t like talking on the phone, the only person that I could talk to on the phone for hours is no longer here.  Give me a bookstore and a cup of coffee and I am truly content, but I will have to wait until I am ancient to be able to do that.

  1. Hi Christie – I like reading your blog – your children are so lucky to have you as a mom! I have two beautiful boys and I’m blessed to be married to someone I love dearly – I can completely relate to your comment that I could lose everything and overcome -but not my family. I too lost my best friend (my mother) a couple of years ago – first to Alzheimer’s disease and then death – I know the devastation – I look forward to keeping up with your blog – love Riley!

  2. I’m am so sad that you don’t consider yourself attractive. You are one of the most beautiful people I have ever met. Your smile will lift someones spirits. I have met many ladies who have nice figures, but they way they treat people makes them appear so ugly. The old saying beauty comes from the inside is so true. I could not of handpicked a better wife for Nick or a better mother for his children. I hope that Nick realizes that you were a blessing that God gave to him.We love you dearly and I am looking forward to reading your blogs.

  3. Hi, Thanks for visiting my site and “liking” my Cauliflower-Salsa Bean Bake post. You said something in your bio that was very reminiscent of my own life: “I don’t consider myself attractive, but I know that I am very intelligent.” I always felt that way about myself. And, for me, being intelligent has meant a very interesting life because I love learning and every intellectual challenge was a joy. But, now that I’m a grandmother in her 60s and I look back at pictures of myself, I find that I was attractive, not in a conventional way perhaps, but I was and am now sad that I wasn’t able to see that…although fortunately my husband did! Moral of my story: people can be surprisingly hard on themselves for all the wrong reasons! Hugs

  4. Hi, Christie!

I think you and I probably have a lot in common. I have a college degree (and an MA) and make almost no money working in a nonprofit. I lost my mom when I was 12, and would give anything to be able to call her, too. I fall asleep every single night reading a book.

I look forward to reading your blog. :)

  5. Thanks for stopping by and reading my post :) I also hate talking on the phone, which is funny cause most of my high-school / University friends would never believe me if I told them that. You have so much on the go and you make it look so easy. That’s amazing!!

  6. Thanks for stopping by my new blog. The princess cake you made is AMAZING! I always find it inspirational to read about women who balance both work and children. Really enjoy your site!

  7. I’m so glad you checked out my blog because now I have the opportunity to look at yours. I really like it. Keep up the good work!

  8. Thank you for stopping by and liking my post. Reading your about page, it seems we have a few things in common—mostly that I miss my mom too. Will stop by to see what else you have created (that was a nice, big castle cake you made!).

  9. Hi Cookie Momma (I love your name). Thanks for liking my blog! I have followed you back here to find your trap for a Leprechaun. I can not wait to see what they catch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So I just have to follow you to find out!

  10. Wow…that sounded like you were describing me! Although I have different jobs, 2 kids and from the line of displaced Acadians (Nova Scotia, Canada—we have our own version of French too :P ). Oh, and I am lucky enough to have that best friend I can talk to on the phone…all other combos are 30 sec or less…

    • I have written a YA manuscript, and had Denise Little look at it. I was given some suggestions and need to get back in and make some revisions. I think that I jumped the gun and submitted too early. I really need to get back into it. I kinda put it on the backburner for a while. I am currently a regular contributor for a local lifestyle magazine their link is on the right of my page. Point Of Vue. I do mostly historical pieces which I absolutely love. I just need my life to slow down a little so I can give it the attention it deserves. I have written only that one manuscript but have an idea for another. I just wrote it a year ago and it only took me a couple of months to write…lol

  11. Ah, yes. Life gets in the way.
I wish I had more time to devote to my writing.
I’ve written an Inspirational YA novel and received positive feedback from a publisher, but it needs spit and polish.
I’ve finished a draft of a middle grade novel.
I’m currently working on a Baby’s First Year Record book that corresponds with my whimsical Baby’s First Year Calendar I had published a few years ago.
It’s wonderful that you write for a magazine.
    Have a great day

  12. You are indeed a creative soul. I love to read and to be around such people, so inspiring. Thanks for noticing Shadows of Love!

  13. Thank you for stopping my blog and liking my post! Wow is all I can utter when looking through your blog! I seriously find it is amazing that you have kids, a job and you still cook so much! My friends proclaimed me highly energetic for cooking so much with a job and all but I dont even have kids! Bravo!

  14. Hey Christie,

I want to know more about being a cajun. I travelled to New Orleans a few years ago and loved it.

Do you speak French among the family and community? Do you have to come from old Louisiana stock to really be cajun?

I enjoyed you POVHOUMA article by the way.

    Cheers,

    Lukey

    • Hi Lukey,
Thank you for stopping by and the comment on my article. I love the history here and am very blessed to be able to write about some of it. As far as the French speaking, I am able to converse with my grandmother and some aunts in French, they are much more fluent than I am. I am able to understand everything they say, but sometimes I get a little tongue tied. It definitely comes in handy with my job esp with the elderly. There are many of the older people here who still speak French. Cajuns are decendents of Acadian exiles that speak their own dialect of French and mainly live in specific regions in Louisiana. I honestly think it is more a lifestyle and heritage that is passed on and learned from the generations before. I am afraid that it is quickly coming to an end though. I try and pass on some of the words, sayings and traditions on through my children, but due to so many people who now live here not understanding, my children are embarrassed to speak and act that way among others. :(

  15. I love True Blood too, and definitely agree that the books are better. Sookie in the book is such an awesome example of a strong Louisiana woman! Looking forward to keeping up with your blog :-)

  16. Love your About Me. I am so sorry about your mom. It’s a wake up call to me…I take mine for granted sometimes.

  17. I nominated you for the Versatile Blogger award. Check out my latest post entitled “Another Award and I Can Still Keep My Humility” which will be up ASAP.

  18. Hi, I really enjoy reading your blog and have nominated you for the “Inspiring Blog Award” There are a few rules to this nomination (these aren’t my rules, so do what you want…no pressure) you need to give a shout out to me, of course, tell us 7 things about yourself and then nominate 15 bloggers, that’s the tricky part, if you don’t have 15, don’t worry, just pass it on to someone….share the joy by following this link, http://thepinkgourmet.wordpress.com/2012/08/15/thank-you/….. Well done!!!

  20. Hi Christie! You were the first – yes, THE first – person outside of my immediate family and friends to check out our new cooking blog. That classifies you technically as a “stranger”, and it made me smile to see that someone outside of our circle was actually reading, and enjoying, what we’ve been posting. Thank you! =)

I came to your blog immediately, and the first post I happened to read was about the anniversary of your mother’s passing. Your words were beautiful, and they truly touched me. I’m so sorry for your loss; I don’t know how I would survive without my wonderful mother’s constant support and love. You have a lovely way with words, and I really enjoy the different topics you’ve got on this blog. Keep your spirits up!

    Sarah

  21. After looking at those Elf on a Shelf pics, I think you’re understating your obsessive tendencies by saying you’re just “borderline obsessive”! Ha ha! =)

  22. Just came from Chriss911 who wrote you have a great “about” and I agree. I was smiling until I came to the part, “I would give anything to pick up the phone…” and I felt that shift. I guess the heart can sense these things, but then your writing is so well done, so descriptive, so to the point, that you got yours across. I’d love to give you my phone number and say, phone me, try me… I’m certainly old enough to be your mother, and I don’t have any children (just dogs). Maybe for now a big cyber hug will do and maybe you’ll feel that you slide into the heart of a stranger today who will be thinking of you and wishing you well. My name’s Paulette.

  23. I also found your blog through Chriss911. You and I share a love of reading. The bookstore and the cup of coffee sound wonderful to me as well. I enjoyed looking at your blog. Best wishes to you in your writing.

  24. I enjoy what I have read so far..great blog! I am with you on so much of what you said in your “about” section! I complained to my husband yesterday “why do people CALL me back when I text them? I hate talking on thephone!”. I fall asleep and thump my head with the Kindle nightly, which is better than when it used to be large, hardcover books..those left marks!

  25. Thanks for liking my poetry. I’m a reporter, and have cop shop two days out of the week, so I spend time talking to police investigators. I’ll drop by later to read your work.
