Sleeping Betty? THS Drama

This is my blog and those who follow me know that I blog about many different things, but the ones that I am most proud of are my children.  This week Patience and the rest of her drama class worked very hard on a twisted presentation of Sleeping Beauty.  Patience, had the role of the character with the most lines, some would say she was the main character, so I will just say that.  Her monologues were spot on and I could not have been more proud.  She is a different person on stage, and yes I know that’s what actors and actresses do, but as her mother it is just astounding that she can transform into someone so different than what she is on a day to day basis.  Patience is normally a quiet behind the scenes person; she doesn’t try to grab attention and silently expresses herself through her art and music.  On stage her good memory is put to the test, her self-discipline keeps her in line, her keen perception allows her to ad-lib as needed, her confidence allows her to present her art in front of many, her dedication to craft makes her act perfectly, and the ability to adapt to different situations and opinions is key.

As her mother, I need to take head to the latter of the characteristics.  She played the villain in the play and to hear the snickers and responses to her “mean” acting had my blood boiling, but I had to realize that she acted so well people believed her to be the villain.  She was AMAZING and so there it is!

Here is a brief synopsis of the play and a few pics to go along with it:

In this twist on the beloved fairy tale, a traditional storyteller reading from his all too well-known book of Sleeping Beauty is quickly usurped by the story’s feisty villain, the evil Griselda (Patience) With a magical spell, she literally turns back the hands of time to show what really happened to “Sleeping Betty.” Fortunately, two good fairies and a magical frog help set the story straight, and make sure everyone lives happily ever after.

  1. Awesome! Take it from an old drama mama, I spent a 1000 hrs in theaters watching the girls in productions…..it’s the best seat in the house and beats the bleachers in June! She looks fabulous, congratulations! My grandson watches the old videos of his mom as Maria in Sound of Music, he loves it, and I get to relive it again, with him! Keep those videos!
