Boat Ride on Louisiana bayous!

A couple of weeks ago, my dad called for us to go on a little boat ride.  The kids were super excited, but not quite as much as I was.  When I was a kid I practically grew up on the bayous.  Every Friday we would all pack up, hop on the boat, and head out to the camp for the weekend.  We had so much fun out there and it has been a while since I have visited.  While riding through the familiar bayous, tons of childhood memories flooded my mind and cherished thoughts of my mom were so close.  Here are a few pictures that do not even begin to capture the essence.

This was my grandfather’s camp. This is the place we spent many weekends and holidays at. It may look meek to you all, but to me it is full of happiness, love, and family.

My dad, the fearless bayou man, and the kiddos! They LOVED their time on da bayou!

There are so many things that my kids have not experienced once that I did on a daily basis as a child.  Things were so much more simple then and life was fun.  My kids have a pretty good childhood thus far, but I just hope that I can give enough of our heritage and family tradition in there.

  1. This looks like fun. Except I keep picturing all the snakes and crocodiles that are probably hiding in the bayou– ha. Cheers!

    • hahaha! Yes there were snakes and one year a cousin of mine stepped on a copperhead and was bit. Thankfully he made it to the hospital in time and is now in his 30s. No crocs here, just alligators…lol

      • They belong to the same family, but crocs can get way bigger than alligators. The biggest difference between the two are their skeletons and head shape. Alligators have more of a broad head and snout whereas crocs have a more narrow snout. Crocs are more common in salt water whereas alligators stick to fresh and mild brackish water. There are many other differences, but these are the ones that you can physically see. :)
