Hurricane Preparations…Can you ever really be prepared?
I will be the first to say that I LOVE living in Southern Louisiana, despite the “poor uneducated reputation” we all acquired due to a nationwide stereotype of Cajuns. One of the down sides of living in southern Louisiana is the dreaded hurricane season; the Gulf Of Mexico is right in our backyard. Seven years ago we battled and survived Katrina, but not without a huge price being paid. We are currently in the direct path of Tropical Storm Isaac, which is scheduled to turn into a strong Category 2 storm by the time it reaches us. My family and I will ride it out at home. Our house is boarded up, we are well stocked and we have a generator ready to go in the case of power loss. I will attempt to get some good pics and add them later.
On the bright side, I did pick these beautiful flowers while securing the shutters today. It adds a little cheer to the incoming gloom.
Please keep us all in your prayers.
~Christie
Prayer to Avert Storms and Hurricanes
Father, all the elements of nature obey your command. Calm the storms and hurricanes that threaten us and turns our fear of Your power into praise of Your goodness. Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen!

Holding you and yours and all you hold dear in prayer!
Thank you!
God speed to you, Christy. I’m in New Orleans. I’m staying for this one too. — Ray
Same to you. Stay safe and be prepared (which I am sure you are). I am in Thibodaux/Lafourche Parish, we may have to share pictures ~Christie
oh my goodness! just when I thought all my friends and family were safe from this….I almost forgot about my blog friends!! We’ll keep you in our prayers tonight.
Thank you! We are preparing for the worse, but praying for the best. Due to our jobs evacuation is not an option. If it were too strong of a storm or threat, the kids would evacuate with family, but it looks like the power outages will be the worse of it. I am dreading the cold showers and no power for days! ugh
Well, lets hope & pray its just the power outage. On a side note, you know you can use your car to take a warm bath. All you need is to run a big hose from your car’s tailpipe to a tub of water. Make sure you are bathing in well ventilated area though
Haha! That would be interesting.
I have faith we will be ok.
Just pleeeese don’t forget about the VENTILATION, if you ever do get desperate enough to try my method…lol. Don’t make my wife and I read about some lovely family being hospitalized for carbon monoxide poisoning due to questionable bathing practice
Oh I promise, that will not happen. I had 2 weeks of cold showers after Katrina, the body gets use to it, esp when it is hot as heck outside!
wow, 2 weeks of cold shower….no wonder some people call you “Ranger momma”
tough nickname for tough momma!
Hahaha! It was so gross and humid and working around the clock so the showers were actually refreshing! lol
Amen.
May you all be safe.
Thank you, it will be an interesting one.
Stay safe!!!!
Thank you! Nick will be out there working, I will keeping the kiddos and home safe.
good luck to you!
Thank you, it is appreciated
Praying for all of you. Stay well, stay safe.
Thank you. So far so good. It’s just that crazy dark and bright sky right now with the occassional rain. Has not made landfall yet
It was easy on the west coast of Florida. We are still getting some rain. I had everything ready for it but we were in mostly a dry air feeder bans. I know you are ready and have it together. It has been moving fast so that is in your favor not sitting in the gulf and getting energized. Good luck, I will be thinking about you until your next post.
Thank you. Storms are so unpredictable. It’s one of those things that you hope it stays away but then it means that it will hit somewhere else and those people will have the damage.
Hope we do make it out as well as you guys. I really wish there was something they could come up with that would kill it before land and no one would have to worry about these…lol
Stay safe, earthquakes seem so minor compared to hurricanes and tornados!
